Paisley Jura’s enigmatic and transporting songs arrive like wind sifting through branches, gently brushing past and raising gooseflesh. At times lyrical and whimsical, other times flat-out gorgeous and heavy with sadness, Paisley Jura’s sophomore offering, Time Is How You Spend Your Love, takes up the cinematic thread of her debut Time In Between.

Producer and multi-Juno winner Michael Phillip Wojewoda (Barenaked Ladies, Great Big Sea) capitalized on the legacy of Paisley’s classical training for this recording. Arrangements on Time is How You Spend Your Love break pop rules time after time – minimalist patterns à la Steve Reich build and overlap and then break back down into groove; avant-garde montages create soundscapes more familiar to listeners of Boulez than Bublé. Several songs are accompanied only by classical string quartet, scored by Juno and SOCAN winning composers Andrew Downing and Robert Carli.

Paisley learned to play the piano at 9 years old, and taught herself flute, guitar, banjo, violin and voice. Classically trained in double bass at the University of Western Ontario, Paisley’s debut album Time in Between was released in 2009 and hit Number One at CIUT, charting on college radio across the country. The single Forgotten Ones is still in rotation at a dozen Canadian commercial radio stations.

She has toured the country coast to coast including performances at the East Coast Music Awards, Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto and the NXNE festival. Paisley was recently nominated for Best Live Acoustic Show at the 2010 Toronto Independent Music Awards.

Paisley Jura is an original, tailor-made for an increasingly faceless music scene in desperate need of strong, innovative and self-determined individuals. Move over Kate Bush, Bjork, Mary Margaret O’Hara, and Joanna Newsom, and make room for one more.
